June Show: The Rovinato Series - May. 2007

A new series for the new space

The June show at the Golden Gallery is for my new series, the Rovinato Series. I have returned to some of my earliest subject matter, what I call urban textures, for the basis of this new work. I layer those textures with shots of bare trees and architectural details for some really moody, somewhat surreal images that have a painterly feel.

The show runs from May 25th through June 21st, 2007.

The new space is complete! - Apr. 2007

We are settled and filling it up....

Most of the green paint is gone, but the red carpet from the Christmas shop remains. I built a new office space, and a wall that splits the back room into retail and workspace, with lots of help from my dad and mom and several fellow Cotton Exchange tenants.

We have already had our first shew and have some great new neighbors in our old space in the form of Port City Fine Arts and Crafts.

The Golden Gallery is located at 311 North Front Street, in the Cotton Exchange, in Historic Downtown WIlmington.

We have moved... - Feb. 2007

More room means more wall space...

Our back room was getting a bit cramped, and we didn't have room for all the framed pieces we wanted to show, so when the store across the hall moved out, we saw a chance to expand.

We actually took two spaces this time, cutting a hole in the wall between them. Here's the work as in progress. We are finished and have been open in the new space since early March.

The Golden Gallery is located at 311 North Front Street, in the Cotton Exchange, in Historic Downtown WIlmington.

New Work Floods Gallery - Sept. 2006

A different kind of flood this time

Years ago, water flooded the Golden Gallery twice in one week. So...we changed locations.

Now, a new kind of flood has happened, a flood of new work. Visitors to the gallery this summer have been presented with a tremendous amount of works to see from watercolorist Mary Ellen Golden and her son, photographer and illustrator John W. Golden.

Two big changes for John have led to his increased artistic output: One, he switched from traditonal to digital photography, and two, he moved his office into the complex where the gallery has been located for 29 years.

"It's great, because now I am close by to sign photo mattes and I can just pop over with a new photo or illustration as I create them," says John. "Before, It might be a month or so between visits to the gallery for me, so new work sat on my harddrive for sometime before I could get it out to the public."

The Golden Gallery is located at 307 North Front Street, in the Cotton Exchange, in Historic Downtown WIlmington.
