John began his career as a professional artist at age of 11 in the late 70's with a series of linoleum block prints. At age 14, he released a series of pen and ink renderings of the North Carolina Lighthouses. He spent the next 4 years developing his interest in art, which led to enrollment in the Graphic Design Program at Appalachian State University. During his years there, John began to pursue photography by taking every course the university offered in the subject while earning his degree in Graphic Design.
In the years after college, John developed his painting and illustration styles while working day (and night) jobs in the design field. He worked on projects for Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Animal Planet, HGTV, TNT, TBS and other major cable networks. Through those experiences, he developed a skill set including animation and motion design.
In 1999, John launched John W. Golden Design, a multi-media design company specializing in design and illustration for the print, broadcast and web fields. In May of 2007, John began to concentrate solely on creating and selling art for his living.
John's work is available for viewing or purchase online at several websites, and in his family's gallery, The Golden Gallery, located at 311 North Front Street, Wilmington, North Carolina in the Historic Cotton Exchange.
